Deepest Darkest’s EP No. 3 is now live on Spotify! Add it to a playlist and help the band win the algorithm wars against their arch-enemies, Foghat! Share your playlist with all your Foghat-hating friends. Maybe name the playlist something like “Foghat?….more like Asshat”. Or “Deepest Darkest Eats Pieces of S**t Like Foghat for Breakfast”. Go all-in with something like “Did Foghat Kill a Man in 1979?” or, you know, maybe just don’t involve Foghat in your playlist titling scheme. The ball is in your court.

EP No. 3 released!
We are so proud to announce today’s release of our 3rd album, EP No. 3. You can check it out on Spotify or Apple Music – or if you’re really wanting to help out the band, buy the album at a show!
So many awesome people contributed to its existence. I’d like to thank original member, Jared Abraham for his willingness to spend some of his Oregon visits in the studio, bringing that magic. I’d like to thank Ann Pepinski for her amazing art. The album cover is so perfect for the songs! Justin Palmer played bass while we test drove these songs at shows. Your grooves made these songs work, brother!
Andy Uppendahl, your drumming was so great. People would probably guess we quantized the drums…but we never need to with Ando! I love your playing so much!
Chris Nelson, you became a member during Covid, after we had already tracked the tunes, but you’ve immediately made your mark on the band. You are an invaluable part of this group for your talent and energy.
I’d like to thank Nat Johnson especially. Such a positive human being! He’s always up for a new musical adventure, whether it be a new sound or a new song. Your voice, your playing and your friendship are so valuable to me!
Thanks, everyone!

EP No. 3 resumes
Nat and I got our shot in the arm, so we’ve decided to resume recording EP No. 3. As you can see by the photo, we’re going to transition our attire slowly from covid casual to rock and roll edgy. We’ve wrapped up on about six tunes, and are nearing completion. Getting the full band together in a room to rehearse is the next step. I imagine we’re going to need to ease into that too. Luckily the guys are amazing musicians, so I think it will come back pretty fast.
Anyway, I have two Covid tunes suggestions. The first is none other than Phantom Planet. I really love their latest album, Devestator. Specifically the song, Through the Trees is a serious bop. Second is an oldie, but goodie: The Association. I’m loving listening to their catalog again. Along Comes Mary and Never My Love (that B section!) are making me feel good.
See you all real soon!!!!

Makin some Noise
Ooh, it’s been a busy 2020 so far, but you wouldn’t know it if you judge by the number of posts here. We’re getting close to finishing the tracking portion on EP No. 3 (working title). It’s taken a bit longer, only because we keep adding more dang ole tunes. Just two days ago, Nat came to the DD studio and laid down some seriously nasty sounding guitar tracks on a brand new one with his Dekum guitar and Benson amp (both Portland-grown products). We’re so proud of how it’s going, it’s tempting to give you a sample. We’ll see 🙂
As for other happenings, part of the band will be joining our buds, Camp Crush for the 2020 edition of Cover Your Hearts – a benefit event where the music is self indulgent covers of your favorite (or maybe your most nostalgic) 80s and 90s tunes. It’s been happening for 12 years(?) and we’ve been a part of most of the last 11 years. So much fun. Hope you can make it.
Well, that’s it for now. See you at a show!

EP No. 3 in the works
Hot on the heels of EP No. 2, we’ve already begun work on EP No. 3. With 3 songs almost complete, we’re making some serious progress, and are pleased with the the way it’s sounding. We’ve enlisted our good friend, Bryan Free to produce a few of the songs. Let me tell you, we feel stupid for not working with him sooner. He is such a positive creative force – it’s really a thing to behold. Anyway, just thought we’d keep you posted. Thanks for supporting independent music!
